Test: Adidas Adizero Boston 12

20.10.2023 - Natalie
With the Adidas Adizero Boston 12, Adidas has made a real step forward from its two predecessors. At first glance, the Boston 12 looks very similar to the Boston 10 and the Boston 11. But if you compare the shoes in detail, it becomes clear that the Adidas Adizero Boston 12 is without a doubt the best shoe. This is because Adidas has fixed some weak points and replaced them with high-quality updates.

The changes include the upper material, which is now even more air-permeable and breathable. Especially on warm days, wearing the Boston 12 is a pleasant feeling, to which the remarkable air circulation contributes. The outsole has also been updated and now has a slightly different, more uniform structure. In the forefoot area, Adidas relies on a Continental outsole that offers good grip (even on wet asphalt) and thus promotes a powerful foot strike.

Furthermore, the Energy Rods 2.0 found in the midsole, which are made of glass fibre, can be seen a little thanks to a recess in the sole. The rods have been rearranged and are now circular in the heel area. This contributes to the shoe not being maximally stiff like some carbon shoes, but still having great tension and thus giving a noticeable push even during loose runs. With its increased dynamism, the Boston 12 continues the tradition of dynamic running feeling that existed until the Boston 9. The midsole is made of two different foams, a new Lightstrike Pro compound on the one hand, and the slightly firmer Lightstrike 2.0, which increases stability during the run, on the other. This makes the shoe feel not only more dynamic but also more softly cushioned than its predecessors.

The Adidas Adizero Boston 12 offers a good fit and good support in the midfoot area, although a little more careful lacing is required, especially when first lacing up. One reason for this is that the strap is no longer connected to the side of the rest of the shoe, but is classically exposed. With an official weight of 227 grams in the women's version and 270 grams in the men's version, the Boston 12 is anything but a heavyweight, considering the very good cushioning behaviour, the numerous built-in technologies and the feeling that you are standing quite high in the shoe.

A huge advantage of the Adidas Adizero Boston 12 is that you can use it for any run. It can be used for casual running as well as intervals or long endurance runs. The Boston 12 is an all-rounder that has been noticeably optimised and offers a lot of running fun.
